Jose Mourinho’s career as Chelsea manager could be brought to an end if the club doesn’t get a good result against upcoming opponents Liverpool, it has been reported.
Chelsea are still struggling to find their footing this Premier League season, sitting in a dismal 15th place in the table following another embarrassing defeat, this time at the hands of West Ham. With Mourinho having previously stated that he wouldn’t step down from his post and that the club’s owners would have to sack him if they wanted him removed, it now looks increasingly likely that a poor result at Stamford Bridge this Saturday would cost him his job.
According to various reports, Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich has lined up Carlo Ancelotti to replace Mourinho, with Guud Hiddink also being an option. Rumours have circulated suggesting Pep Guardiola has also been approached by Chelsea for a second time, though it seems unlikely that the Bayern Munich manager would drop his responsibilities with the German champions to take over the struggling English club, even if Abramovich did open up his wallet.
Mourinho was sent to the directors’ box at half-time after a discussion with referee Jon Moss during the interval, which led to this hilarious encounter between the manager and actor/West Ham fan Danny Dyer:

This is the second match in which Mourinho has been punished by a referee this season, after his criticism of official Robert Madley led to a £50,000 fine and a one-match suspended stadium ban, with Chelsea currently appealing against this decision with the FA. Regardless of the FA’s decision, though, Mourinho’s frustrations with his and his squad’s performance is becoming increasingly visible, and if they fail to pull out all the stops against Liverpool, this could be the last we see of Mourinho in the Premier League.
