Bruce Lee Comic Book Series Coming In 2016

Bruce Lee was a movie star and one of the most influential martial artists of all time before his death at only 32 years old in 1973. But what if Bruce Lee had never died?

That’s the premise of Bruce Lee: The Dragon Rises, a new comic book series co-written by Lee’s daughter, Shannon Lee and Jeff Kline, with artist Brandon McKinney. Essentially, Bruce Lee reappears in the present at his prime, but he has no idea what happened over the last 42 years.

Bruce Lee: The Dragon Rises is a co-production of Darby Pop Publishing and Bruce Lee Entertainment, with veteran comic artist Bernard Chang providing the covers, including the image posted below.

While the 48-page first issue of Bruce Lee: The Dragon Rises won’t be available in comic book stores until July 2016, fans attending Stan Lee’s Comikaze Expo next weekend will have the chance to pick up a special Bruce Lee poster that promotes the upcoming comic book series.

This isn’t the first time that a fictionalized Bruce Lee has headlined a comic book. Back in 1994, Malibu Comics published a six-issue Bruce Lee miniseries by Mike Baron and artist Val Mayerik that pit Lee against gang members and rival dojo owners.

The new Bruce Lee comic will also place a variety of villains in front of Lee as he attempts to adjust to life in the present. Lee’s allies in the series include a ‘70s era private investigator named Joe Toomey and “a pair of precocious teens.” But hopefully not too “precocious.”
