In the ‘90s, animator John Kricfalusi created Ren & Stimpy, a delightfully weird and subversive cartoon series that pushed the boundaries of TV animation. This Sunday, Kricfalusi will bring that same brand of insanity to The Simpsons’ annual Treehouse of Horror Halloween episode for a special opening sequence couch gag.
Unlike some of the previous guest animators, Kricfalusi completely reworks The Simpsons’ characters in his own style for the couch gag, which includes the resurrection of Homer’s nemesis, a popular character who only appeared once on the show!
That’s right, Frank Grimes made his supernatural return and he finally got his revenge on Homer! And it was much better than that time Frank Grimes’ illegitimate son showed up on The Simpsons!
Speaking of revenge, Entertainment Weekly has also debuted a preview scene from the Halloween special that features the long-awaited return of Kelsey Grammer’s Sideshow Bob, who finally managed to murder Bart! But just one death won’t make up for all of the times that Bart has stopped Bob’s evil schemes. So in this clip, Bob comes up with a way to kill Bart, resurrect him, and then kill him again multiple times!
The Simpsons: Treehouse of Horror XXVI will air this Sunday on Fox. Some of the other parodies on tap for this year’s special include Godzilla and Chronicle, which also keeps alive the tradition of The Simpsons being two or three years behind the rest of pop culture.
