Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho has expressed his thoughts regarding Liverpool’s sacking of Brendan Rodgers, saying that he believes Rodgers should have been given more time at Anfield.
Rodgers was removed from his post at Liverpool in a shock announcement, with it then being revealed that the club had appointed former Borussia Dortmund manager Jurgen Klopp as his replacement. Speaking of this series of controversial events, Mourinho said: “You know, I feel sorry that somebody lost his job. And it is quite sad that football in this moment – even in this country – is happy with it.”
He continued: “I’m not speaking about Jurgen [Klopp], I’ve a good relationship with him and nothing will change that. I’m speaking about the circumstances that made Brendan [Rodgers] lose his job.”

With it being rumoured that Mourinho could soon be replaced by in his role following the club’s poor run of form, he was perhaps projecting with his next comment, with the Portuguese manager adding: “I don’t like people being excited that a new manager is coming. I don’t like a player to say: ‘Now, we are going to give extra to prove to the new manager.’ Give to Brendan! Not to the new manager.
“I don’t like this at all. It’s part of my world I don’t like. My world is changing so much. It’s getting worse.”
Liverpool had expressed interest in Klopp prior to his appointment, so it was likely that Rodgers’ sacking wasn’t as a result of his performance, but rather that Klopp had made himself available to the club. Still, Mourinho’s comments are an interesting insight into how other managers react when they see one of their rivals face tough times with their club, and could indicate that Mourinho is feeling less secure in his own job with Chelsea.
