Emilia Clarke, the British actress behind the “Mother of Dragons” Daenerys Targaryen in HBO’s Game of Thrones, has been voted the “Sexiest Woman Alive” by Esquire.
The publication ran a profile of the 28-year-old in the latest edition of the magazine, in which she is (quite weirdly) described as “half pal, half dominatrix. Half kid sister, half sexy queen. The movie star who plays, in her real life, an anonymous, funny beauty. This is the gorgeous balance of Emilia Clarke.”
Esquire’s piece on Clarke follows GQ branding her the “Woman of the Year” last month, and wraps up a successful year for the actress in which she also starred alongside Arnold Schwarzenegger in Terminator Genisys and assumed the role of Holly in a Broadway adaptation of Breakfast at Tiffany’s.
The magazine featured a photoshoot of Clarke, conducted by photographer Vincent Peters, and also saw her explain how she landed the part of Daenerys in the hit show. She said: “[My] agent calls me up and says, ‘Did you ever go up for Game of Thrones?’ My agent told the casting director, ‘I know that the breakdown for this character is tall and willowy and blonde. I know she’s short and round and brown, but I’d like you to see her.’ I had two scenes which told me nothing and not very much time in which to read all those [George R. R. Martin] books. So I did what every good actor does and Wikipedia’d the living crap out of it.”
