Crave is proud to premiere the latest new single from Brooklyn’s dark-melody masters Graveyard Lovers, a teaser from their just-completed new album that can be found on this years CMJ mixtape.
Graveyard Lovers premiered their last album Dreamers exclusively on CraveOnline, on which they grabbed the spirit of rock ‘n roll by the throat and channeled a barrage of gritty, heavy blues riffs through a groove-rich spectrum inhabited by the likes of Jack White and Band of Skulls. Today the trio of Zach Reynolds (guitar, vox), Joel Reynolds (bass) and Tricia Purvis (drums) return, marrying the Pixies and Cage The Elephant for a personally-reflective “Gabe”.
Opening with a chopping bassline, “Gabe” comes to life in an infectiously melodic guitar riff. “We love this song because it came together really effortlessly and fast,” explains Reynolds. “Its not one of the big rock singles on the record but we wanted to release something for CMJ and its a chill but good one.”
“Gabe refers to me and Joels little brother who has autism,” he continues about the track. “When I wrote the lyrics I was going through a lil crisis in confidence/ bout of depression. My brother Gabe has always served as reminder of who I am, he brings me back down to earth when I’m going crazy. His autism diagnosis was kind of a tragedy for our family, it changed everything and made for a much harder childhood for all of us. You can either choose to let it break you or choose to learn something from it and Gabe has definitely taught me alot. I’m kind of a neurotic guy so when I’m freaking out this song reminds me that nothing really matters and everything is ok. I thought maybe other people could use it in the same way.”
