Mere days after dismissing rumours that he could be Brendan Rodgers’ successor at Liverpool, a position that was later filled by Jurgen Klopp, former Real Madrid and Paris-Saint Germain manager Carlo Ancelotti has revealed that he would like to move back to the Premier League.

Ancelotti made the revelation to Italy’s Corriere dello Sport newspaper, and now speculation has begun in regards to which club the football manager would most like to move to.  He said: “The vacation will continue at least until the end of the year. Then I’ll start again. Where will I go? Where they call me. I will talk, evaluate and decide. Up until a few weeks ago I was scared someone would call, but now I feel like I’m getting closer to that comeback.

“At least that is the plan, unless something strange happens. I am ready to get the engine back up and running in January. I’d like to go back to the Premier League. It is the ideal environment not for football, but for the ‘game’ around football.

“You can work with the right amount of pressure, the necessary detachment and calm. Before I quit, I’d like to have another experience in England. In a while I must start to think about retirement, let’s say in five or six years. When I started out at Reggiana, I’d promised myself to work five or six years and that would be it. That was 25 years ago and I’m still going.”

While Ancelotti later went on to say that he believed Manchester City would win the Premier League this year, it is unlikely that they would bring him into the fold with it being probable that Manuel Pellegrini will extend his stay at the club.

The most likely candidates for Ancelotti, then, would be either Chelsea or Manchester United, with the former currently struggling with Jose Mourinho as manager, leading to “The Special One” stating that the club would have to sack him in order for him to leave his post. On the other hand, Manchester United are returning to form after a difficult start to the season, though Louis van Gaal has already spoken out about his retirement. However, the Dutchman stated that he would be like to hand over his responsibilities to Ryan Giggs when he leaves, though it is uncertain whether or not this opinion is echoed by the club’s owners.

Ancelotti previously took the helm of Chelsea back in the 2012/13 season, where he coached them to their first “double” in the form of a Premier League and FA Cup victory within the same year.
