The Truth is Out There…and it’s also at New York Comic Con!
On Saturday, October 10, the U.S. premiere of The X-Files six-episode revival took place in front of a packed audience that got to be among the very first to see the entire premiere episode. And the revival quickly puts forth an alternate explanation for the events of the previous nine seasons of The X-Files!
The X-Files debuted on Fox in 1993 and quickly made stars out of David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson as they portrayed FBI agents Fox Mulder and his partner, Dana Scully. The X-Files ran for nine seasons and two feature films before going dormant. And for the revival, nearly every major character will be back in some capacity!
Silicon Valley co-star and The Meltdown host Kumail Nanjiani moderated The X-Files panel at New York Comic Con and his passion for the series was evident when CraveOnline caught up to him afterwards. Nanjiani shared details about his guest role in the third episode of the revival as an animal control officer. He also disclosed the origins of his X-Files fandom and his popular podcast, The X-Files Files.
Mitch Pileggi also stopped by and told us whether Walter Skinner has finally been promoted after over two decades as the assistant director of the FBI. Additionally, Pileggi spoke about seeing his name and face added to the original opening credit sequence for The X-Files miniseries.
Duchovny shared Mulder’s state of mind at the beginning of the revival and hinted at a relationship status change with Mulder’s former partner, Scully. Duchovny also revealed his favorite among the new monsters coming to the series.
And finally, series creator Chris Carter spoke about Duchovny’s new favorite monster and the makeup process for that creature before talking about the decision to pursue the television revival over a third X-Files movie and how the episodes will break down into “monster of the week” or mythology episodes written by Carter and some of the series’ best writers. The apparent resurrection of a classic character from the series was also addressed.
The X-Files revival miniseries will make its broadcast premiere on Sunday, January 24, 2016.
