On Friday, October 9, Marvel Head of TV Jeph Loeb returned to New York Comic Con for the annual Marvel TV panel. And he wasn’t alone.
Clark Gregg appeared on stage early in the “Marvel’s Agents of Primetime” panel, and he was greeted by the crowd chanting the name of his Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. character, Phil Coulson. But before Gregg’s show was discussed, Loeb ran a clip from Agent Carter Season 2, in which Hayley Atwell’s title character is shown the special features of Howard Stark’s car by her old friend, Edwin Jarvis (James D’Arcy). The car had some…shall we say, dubious upgrades to let Stark impress young women.
Immediately following the clip, Loeb confirmed that Dominic Cooper will reprise his role as Howard Stark in the second season despite being the lead character in AMC’s new Preacher series. Bridget Regan will also be back as “Dottie,” a proto-Black Widow character who was one of Agent Carter’s primary enemies in the first season.
One of the bigger revelations of the panel was that Wynn Evrett is joining Agent Carter’s cast as Whitney Frost, the Marvel villainess better known Madame Masque. Lotte Verbeek is also joining the series as Ann Jarvis, Edwin’s wife; with Reggie Austin as Dr. Jason Wilkes and Currie Graham as Frost’s husband, Chad Chatwin. Loeb noted that the second season of Agent Carter is currently being filmed, and it will premiere on ABC at midseason.
When asked about bringing Mutant characters into Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., Gregg joked that the Mutants were in the frightening realm of “the copyright zone,” but he expressed his wish to eventually bring in those characters to the MCU. Loeb stressed the Inhuman storyline on Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., and new characters who will make their debuts this season.
Loeb and Gregg then surprised the audience with an unannounced preview of the entire third episode of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Season 3. The primary arc of the episode involved Hunter and May’s continuing quest to hunt down Ward. Towards that end, Hunter went undercover at a British fight club and quite literally fought his way to the top.
The episode also follows up on Fitz and Simmons’ reunion and Lincoln’s time on the run. Coulson also has another confrontation with Rosalind Price, and he hilariously seemed to be more interested in her vintage car than he was in her.
Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Season 3 continues this Tuesday, October 13 on ABC.
