Renowned film director Ridley Scott has met with Australian Foreign Minister Julie Bishop to discuss his hopes to film an upcoming project in the country, and the Minister says the Australian Government will consider his plans.
Ms Bishop has confirmed to Sky News that she recently met with Mr Scott to discuss his plan to produce a film in Australia.
“I was very interested to hear from him and it’s certainly a matter I’ll take up with Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull and Treasurer Scott Morrison,” Ms Bishop said, before talking up Australia’s creative economy.
“We have some of the most talented and creative people in Australia, one of our greatest natural assets,” she said.
“If we can promote film production in Australia I think that’s a great opportunity for more jobs in our creative economies, in the creative sections in our country.”
While Ms Bishop didn’t reveal exactly which film Mr Scott is hoping to shoot down under, it’s likely to either be the highly-anticipated sequel to his 1982 classic Blade Runner or a sequel to Prometheus, his prequel to the Alien franchise.
Earlier this month, Mr Scott revealed a new title for Prometheus 2 after telling Deadline that the film will begin production in February 2016 in either Australia or Canada.
While the Australian Government seems keen to consider Mr Scott’s plans, only time will tell if one of the director’s upcoming blockbusters will feature Aussie locations or Aussie talent.
