Who Will Find the Last Easter Egg in ‘Guardians of the Galaxy?’

By now fans have seen Guardians of the Galaxy dozens of times. We certainly have, anyway. And while James Gunn’s blockbuster space opera may have been disseminated countless times already, the writer/director now claims in a Facebook post that there is one giant easter egg – “the big one, really” – that nobody has discovered yet.

James Gunn’s Facebook

For the record, Guardians of the Galaxy is packed to the gills with easter eggs already, including several minor characters from the comic books, a ship named after Alyssa Milano (Peter Quill’s 1980s crush), and a heck of a lot more. Fans have been going bananas on Twitter trying to guess what the final easter egg could be, prompting Gunn to release the follow non-clue, or possibly a very big clue:

He could just be fooling around, or he could be referencing several possibilities, including a shout-out to Ernest Cline’s sci-fi novel Ready Player One (currently being adapted to the screen by Steven Spielberg), suggesting some sort of tie-in with the 1980s classic The Last Starfighter (which Peter Quill would probably have seen), or even telling us that the awesome 1985 song Money for Nothing by The Dire Straits will turn up on the soundtrack to Guardians of the Galaxy 2. Maybe.

Whatever it is, you know damn well that fans of Guardians of the Galaxy are going to find it eventually. Or at least that someone will stumble upon it by accident by guessing wildly enough.

What do YOU think it is…?
