Back in 2007, director Frank Darabont adapted Stephen King’s The Mist as a feature film starring Thomas Jane. And while The Mist wasn’t a blockbuster hit, Dimension Television has announced plans to bring The Mist to TV.
The Mist TV series will reportedly use both the novella and the movie as influences, but it will be an original story about a small town that is menaced by an otherworldly mist that forces the townspeople to confront their inner demons and terrifying creatures from another dimension. However, the greatest threat to the townspeople will be each other as they give into paranoia and insanity as their world collapses around them.
Christian Torpe is developing The Mist for television with King’s blessing. He created the TV series Rita in Denmark and he has previously worked with AMC and Showtime on shows in development.

In statement, Dimension Films founder Bob Weinstein said “The terror and drama in Stephen King’s novella are so vast that we felt serialized television is the best place to explore them in greater depth. With this show, Christian has created a fascinating band of characters and a story with infinite scares.”
There is currently no network attached to the TV adaptation of The Mist, but the project will likely be shopped around in the near future.
