New Trailer For The Leftovers Season 2 Shows Trouble Ahead

When HBO’s The Leftovers wrapped up its first season last year, it had a unique problem. Showrunnner Damon Lindelof had adapted almost the entirety of Tom Perrotta’s novel of the same name. For the second season, Lindelof and Perrotta have created a brand new storyline for The Leftovers, with only a few cast members returning.

By the end of the first season finale, the town of Mapleton, New York had nearly torn itself apart because of the Guilty Remnant, a cult devoted to making the rest of the world acknowledge that the Rapture happened…whether they wanted to or not!

To escape the madness, former Mapleton police chief Kevin Garvey, Jr. (Justin Theroux) is moving to Jarden, Texas with his daughter, Jill (Margaret Qualley) and his girlfriend, Nora Durst (Carrie Coon) as well as the abandoned baby of the late Holy Wayne (Paterson Joseph) and the dog that Kevin inexplicably tamed.

But in the new trailer for The Leftovers Season 2, the Garvey family finds more trouble in their new home. Jarden may have been spared from the Rapture, but it’s far from a paradise. The Guilty Remnant isn’t entirely out of the picture, and a hint of Kevin’s madness remains when he sees the spectre of Patti (Ann Dowd), the Guilty Remnant’s leader who killed herself to spite Kevin.

Christopher Eccleston and Liv Tyler are among the other returning cast members for The Leftovers Season 2. New to the cast are Regina King and Kevin Carroll as Erika and John Murphy, the new neighbors of the Garveys in Jarden. Jovan Adepo is playing Michael Murphy, the son Erika and John.

The Leftovers Season 2 will premiere on Sunday, October 4.
