As I sat and watched news reports of families of refugees standing on European soil, having fled from the conflict of Syria for the safety of Germany, France and many other EU countries that outstretched their helping hands, I said to myself: “I wonder what U2’s Bono thinks of all this.” Fortunately, Bono has now offered his opinion on the crisis, but there’s some bad news: he doesn’t know what to do about it, either.
During U2’s show in Turin, Italy, last weekend, Bono used his platform to tell the assembled audience that he doesn’t have the answer to the refugee crisis, a sentence which I imagine was met with an hysterical response from the crowd who had assumed that Bono would be able to sort the whole thing out.
“We don’t know what the answer to the refugee crisis in Europe and Africa is,” Bono said, adding:” But we know that if we don’t figure it out, then Europe, which is a beautiful idea, will be no more. So we have to figure it out, whatever it is.”
Okay, so at least he’s pointed us in the right direction. We now know that “we have to figure it out,” and it’s a good thing that he told us because up until this point, the EU’s governments weren’t planning on figuring it out at all. Instead they were just going to go with the flow and see what happened, but now that Bono has said that they have to do something about it, they might just change their mind. Thanks, Bono!

The singer continued: “I don’t know the answer to the refugee crisis in Europe and Africa, but I know we must work together to find an answer to the refugee crisis in Europe and Africa. As Nelson Mandela said: ‘It always seems impossible until it is done.’”
Oh, so that’s how we solve the crisis in Syria, by working together. Here was us, thinking that helping these thousands upon thousands of people find shelter in a time of need should be an individual effort, but little did we know that teamwork is actually the key. What would we do without Bono, eh? We’d probably not be figuring it out, that’s for sure!
The band’s Adam Clayton also made a comment, urging governments to do “the right thing.” Fuck, and here we all were, wanting our governments to do the wrong thing! Wow, we really missed the mark on this whole issue. Thank God we’ve got multi-millionaire rock stars to tell us what we should be thinking in such a time, because we were all scratching our heads until Bono and that other one who isn’t The Edge opened their mouths and told us what to think.
