At Comic-Con International, the producers of The Flash revealed that the new villain for season 2 would be Zoom. And while no one has apparently been cast as Zoom, we know what he’ll sound like when he arrives.
Variety is reporting that Tony Todd has been cast as the voice of Zoom in the second season of The Flash. Todd is well known for his roles in the Candyman and Final Destination film series, in addition to his leading role in the remake of Night of the Living Dead. Todd even has some previous DC experience as the voice of Icon on Young Justice, and also as the voice of Darkseid in the LEGO DC Comics Super Heroes franchise.

Unlike The Flash Season 1, the identity of who Zoom really is will play out “like a horror movie,” according to executive producer Andrew Kreisberg.
“Last year, with the Reverse-Flash, we just modulated Tom Cavanagh’s voice, and this year we wanted to do something a little bit different,” said Kreisberg. “Part of the mystery of the season is who or what is underneath the Zoom outfit, and so we wanted to do something like James Earl Jones as Darth Vader — this iconic voice coming out of this mask. Last year, we thought of the Reverse-Flash as a speed warrior; this year, Zoom is like a speed demon, and no one does demon-voice better than Tony Todd.”
Kreisberg also teased Zoom’s outfit: ““The Zoom outfit is much more organic than the Reverse-Flash suit. In a way, it’s hard to tell if it is a suit or alive… There’s no skin showing, for all you know there’s a robot underneath, or dark energy.”

In The Flash comic book series, Zoom was created by Geoff Johns and artist Scott Kolins. That incarnation of Zoom was Hunter Zolomon, a former friend of The Flash who tried to make him a better hero by inflicting tragedies upon him. The new Zoom doesn’t appear to be the same character on The Flash TV series.
“The story of Zoom and who and what he is… hopefully comic book fans will be happy because we’ve come up with a clever way to spin the tale,” said Kreisberg. “But that also makes it exciting for the people who aren’t as familiar with the comics and are just enjoying the show on its own terms.”
Zoom will make his first appearance on the second episode of The Flash Season 2 on Tuesday, October 13.
