The death of legendary guitarist Jimi Hendrix in 1970 was put down to a drug overdose followed by asphyxia, but a new video game is telling the story of Hendrix’s “murder” with the muso himself playing each and every character.
As Boing Boing reports, the free-to-download game The Jimi Hendrix Case is a simple point-and-click mystery game in which you the player are Jimi Hendrix, a detective who has been called to the scene of Jimi Hendrix’s death by police officer Jimi Hendrix.
Here’s how the game’s creator – whose online profile says they are a 32-year-old man from Richmond, Victoria – describes their creation:
“Enter the world of Jimi Hendrix, police detective. In a world where everyone is Jimi Hendrix, only Jimi Hendrix can solve the murder and find out who killed Jimi Hendrix.”
Loading up on even more Jimi Hendrix references, The Jimi Hendrix Case reportedly quizzes players about the names of the victim and the suspects in the case, who are all, of course, called Jimi Hendrix.
There have long been conspiracy theories suggesting that Hendrix’s death at the age of 27 was actually a murder, but The Jimi Hendrix Case takes these theories to hilariously odd new heights.
The game was supposedly made as part of a monthly adventure game jam whose recent theme was actually “Hendrix”. The game’s creator took this theme very, very literally.
The Jimi Hendrix Case can be downloaded for free at the Adventure Game Studio forum, but currently only works with computers running Windows.
