ABC Greenlights Pilot For Marvel’s Most Wanted

ABC has taken the first major step forward towards its third Marvel Comics-inspired show on the network. And it looks like Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. and Agent Carter will soon be joined by some familiar faces.

According to Variety, Marvel’s Most Wanted has gotten a pilot order from ABC. This show is the previously unnamed Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. spinoff that was believed to have died on the vine last spring. At the time, ABC was non-committal about the fate of the spinoff series that will feature Adrianne Palicki and Nick Blood reprising their roles as Bobbi Morse/Mockingbird and Lance Hunter, respectively.

Curiously, ABC insiders are said to be playing up Marvel’s Most Wanted as a standalone series rather than a direct spinoff from Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. or any other Marvel program. Aside from the title of the series and the main characters, nothing else is known about Marvel’s Most Wanted.

Jeffrey Bell and Paul Zbyszewski wrote the pilot episode for Marvel’s Most Wanted and they created the potential series. Both of them worked together on Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. and they will be the showrunners on Marvel’s Most Wanted if it goes forward.

It is currently unclear if Marvel’s Most Wanted will be seeded in the upcoming third season of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., but it would make sense to do so. Both Palicki and Blood are series regulars on that show, and they quickly won a fan following after being introduced during the second season.

Marvel has had its eye on a Mockingbird-centric series for some time. One of the earliest pitches pursued by Marvel Head of TV Jeph Loeb was an “Alias-esque” take on a young Mockingbird for ABC Family that ultimately didn’t go anywhere. Marvel’s Most Wanted will likely be in contention for a slot on ABC’s Fall 2016 TV schedule.
