Everything You Need To Know About The Arrow and Constantine Crossover Episode

When Warner Bros. TV was attempting to find NBC’s Constantine a new home, Arrow star Stephen Amell offered to appear as Oliver Queen on Constantine. While efforts to save Constantine have failed, Matt Ryan is returning the gesture.

Yesterday, Ryan announced that he will make a guest appearance as John Constantine in Arrow Season 4. Today, Arrow executive producer Marc Guggenheim revealed what’s bringing Constantine into the Arrow’s orbit.

There are SPOILERS AHEAD! Beware, if you don’t want to know anything else ahead of time!

Ryan will appear in the fifth episode of Arrow Season 4, which also happens to be the episode that will officially resurrect Sara Lance (Caity Lotz) and set up her spot on DC’s Legends of Tomorrow.

“Unlike Thea, who wasn’t fully dead, the consequences of using the [Lazarus] pit on someone as dead as Sara was creates some unforeseen difficulties,” noted Guggenheim while speaking to TV Insider. “And John Constantine is uniquely suited to help our team deal with those.”

While this episode will introduce John Constantine into the world shared by Arrow, The Flash, and Legends of Tomorrow, don’t expect it to become a regular thing. Guggenheim stressed that it required special permission from DC Comics…and it’s unlikely to happen again.

“This is something the fans were clamoring for,” said Guggenheim, before adding that DC was “magnanimous and generous in giving us this one-time dispensation.” He added that “we are super-crazy excited about this.”

Guggenheim also said that Ryan’s wardrobe from Constantine was also removed from storage for this episode, and that former Constantine helmer John Badham is directing the crossover episode.

The fifth episode of Arrow Season 4 will tentatively air on Wednesday, November 4th on The CW.
