Chelsea’s physio Eva Carneiro has lost her place on the bench after club boss Jose Mourinho was angered by the behaviour of his medical staff’s during their 2-2 draw with Swansea.
Mourinho blasted Chelsea’s medics after they ran on the pitch to treat Eden Hazard, with the Spaniard claiming that Carneiro & co. do not “understand the game.” Carneiro will remain the club’s first-team doctor, though will not travel with them to games, nor attend training sessions or enter the hotel for away matches.
Chelsea were left a man down after Thibaut Courtois was sent off in the 52nd minute, and Carneiro taking to the pitch in stoppage time in order to tend to Hazard didn’t help improve Mourinho’s mood in the dying seconds of a tough opening game for the London outfit.

“You have to know you have one player less and when you go to the pitch to assist a player you have to make sure your player has a serious injury,” the manager said, adding: “I was sure he hadn’t a serious problem. He had a knock, he was very tired. But my medical department – on an impulse – was naive and left me with eight outfield players in a counter attack after a set piece.”
Mourinho was filmed screaming on the sidelines as Carneiro ran out to treat Hazard, with Mourinho insisting that Hazard should have instead been brought off the pitch for further examination if it was deemed necessary. Carneiro, who has been with the club for five seasons, has yet to announce whether or not she will accept this new position within the club after what many are branding as harsh treatment on behalf of Mourinho, who has had run-ins with his medical staff in previous years despite their exceptional injury record.
Taking to Facebook after the match, Carneiro wrote: “I would like to thank the general public for their overwhelming support. Really very much appreciated.” The post was later deleted.
