Kendrick Lamar Will Be The First Musical Guest Of Stephen Colbert’s Late Show

Stephen Colbert’s hard-on for Kendrick Lamar continues to fly at full-mast, with the announcement that the rapper, who was also the final performer on Colbert’s now-defunct The Colbert Report show, will kick things off on the upcoming Colbert-helmed relaunch of CBS’ The Late Show.

The West Coast MC, who played at Outside Lands over the weekend, sent-off Colbert’s Comedy Central news program back in December last year, unveiling a then-unheard new song and will now supply some perfect symmetry, helping introduce the non-satirised version of Colbert to our screens next month.

The song performed on The Colbert Report was expected to appear on this year’s stunning Kendrick album To Pimp A Butterfly, but is yet to surface in any release since, with rumours that the untitled track, which featured Thundercat, Terrace Martin and Bilal, was written the day before the performance, solely for Stephen’s musical finale.

With TPAB already being hailed as one of the albums of the year, plus some contributions to last weeks Dr. Dre release Compton, your guess is as good as ours as to what track Lamar will pump out on the very first The Late Show With Stephen Colbert, but it’s safe to say it’ll be a ripper.

The Late Show with Stephen Colbert will premiere on CBS September 8th.
