Feature | Bric-A-Brac Records: 7 Chicago Bands That SHOULD Be Playing Lollapalooza

Located in Chicago’s vibrant Logan Square, Bric-A-Brac Records is the neighborhoods trusty purveyor of new and used vinyl, cassettes, and all sorts of music and pop culture memorabilia. Serving up a serious selection of “punk, junk, and rock n roll,” the store also hosts a bunch of in-store performances by regional bands, giving them an especially informed perspective on the under-acknowledged and up-and-coming heroes of the underground. Here, Bric-A-Brac co-owner Nick Mayor gives us his picks of local bands that should be playing Lollapalooza.

Son of a Gun

“Ripping garage punk that sounds like the spawn of early Black Lips and the Hives. So good, I got one of their logos tattooed!”

Cut Worms

“Exciting new project from Max Clark, channeling a strong influence of the classic early Everly Brothers songwriting.”

The Yolks

“The hardest working rock n roll band in Chicago, these guys have been at it for the better part of 10 years. Look for their most recent album on Burger Records!”

Uh Bones

“Just released their debut LP on Randy Records and about to head out on a national tour, so keep an eye out! Traditional garage rock at its finest, infectious organ hooks and heavy bass lines.”

The Sueves

“Main project of the inimitable Joe Schorgl (also of Skip Church). Pure rock n roll hurtling at you full force from this trio with their vinyl debut out earlier this year on Hozac Records.”

Melkbelly

“Weirdos with a weird name. Pummeling live shows, ferocious debut album out on Automatic Records.”

Skip Church

“Relative new-comers to the Chicago rock n roll scene but helmed by Joe Schorgl (also of The Sueves), these guys are tough to pin down. Garage, punk, psych, country, AC, DC, who the heck knows??”
