“Its amazing what a couple hundred shows on the road, in a year, can do for a band,” says Christo Bowman, vocalist-guitarist of Bad Suns. Born and bred in the suburbs of Southern California, the boys have been touring across the U.S and Europe for over a year now, supporting the 2014 release of their debut album, Language & Perspective, featuring lead single “Cardiac Arrest”, a soaring pop ballad that peaked at #15 on Billboard’s Alternative chart.
Bowman and drummer Miles Morris joined us for a conversation on the sun-filled deck of the historic USS Midway in San Diego, just prior to performing a punchy set for the attendees of CraveOnline’s annual Comic-Con party, Crave Escape. Having traveled the globe, the band is especially accustomed to the bright skies and cool breeze of the Pacific, but draw their inspiration from an array of sources.

“I think the San Fernando Valley, which is where we’re from, is kind of this counterculture to everything that’s happening in Hollywood. And maybe there’s something to say about that. But really, we’re just inspired by music all over the world.” Presently, their personal playlists include everything from the indie stylings of Canadian upstarts ALVVAYS, the jacked grooves of Jamie XX, and the Top 40 fodder of The Weeknd.
Now, at the tail end of one album cycle and the beginning of another, Bad Suns return to Los Angeles to hit the studio with producer Eric Palmquist (The Mars Volta, Wavves), fueled by a renewed vision and some well-earned worldliness. “Now I think we’re at a very exciting place,” says Bowman, “we’re back in the studio, but we have a little more hindsight and knowledge and wisdom, maybe.”
