Who knew the first victim in the imminent war against sentient drone technology would be Enrique Iglesias? The Latin crooner has been left sporting a nasty gash to his hand after getting into a fight with a camera drone and coming off second best. Apparently, the 40-year-old singer made a grab for the tiny winged robot, which had been hovering overhead, taking happy snaps of the 12,000-strong crowd gathered at his concert in Mexico, and was subsequently maimed.
But the singer of a heartfelt love ballad so epic as Hero was not about to let a bit of blood loss stand in the way of finishing a show for so many adoring fans and, like a boss, Iglesias bandaged up the flesh-wound and powered forth with blood oozing out of his hand-gash.
The 40-year-old even apparently used his own leaking haemoglobin to paint a gruesome love heart upon his formerly white shirt. Now that’s bleeding for your art.
“During the show a drone is used to get crowd shots and some nights Enrique grabs the drone to give the audience a point of view shot,” a representative said in a statement, as reported by Fairfax.
“Something went wrong and he had an accident. He decided to go on and continued playing for 30 minutes.”
After finishing his set, Iglesias was then rushed to the airport where he was semi-treated by paramedics, before being airlifted to LA to see a specialist. He’s currently recovering in the hospital.
Enrique Iglesias may have escaped with his life, but who knows whom the drones will target next.
