Elektra May Be In Daredevil Season 2

A few weeks ago, Daredevil star Charlie Cox included Elektra, Bullseye and the Punisher on his wishlist for a second season. And it looks like Cox will get at least one of his wishes.

Via IGN, two audition videos were leaked (and quickly pulled offline) that featured actresses Shiva Kalaiselvan and Louisa Mignone (Wish You Were Here) reading for the part of Elektra. Although the character in the scenes was called Elise, they were clearly meant to be Elektra. The first scene featured Elektra with a criminal victim, and the second was a flashback to Elektra’s time in college with Matt Murdock. She is the “Greek girl” that Matt and Foggy mentioned in episode ten of the first season.

Elektra was created in 1981 by Frank Miller as a new foil for Daredevil. Miller retconned Elektra Natchios into Matt Murdock’s backstory and he gave the lovers a tragic twist that led her to become one of the most ruthless assassins in the Marvel Universe.

The popularity of Elektra was so immense that Marvel reportedly broke its word to Miller and kept using her even after Miller had killed off her character, resurrected her and wrote her out of the series. Elektra has since gone on to become one of Marvel’s most prominent female characters, with multiple solo comic book series and miniseries.

In the 2003 Daredevil movie, Elektra was played by Jennifer Garner. Two years later, Garner reprised her role for the Elektra movie, which was a critical and box office disappointment. But because of that failure, Marvel was eventually able to recapture the rights to Daredevil and Elektra when Fox let its option slip away.

Daredevil Season 2 is expected to begin filming this summer for a 2016 premiere on Netflix.
