Corey Taylor Went On A Sweary Rant, Dissing Pop Music & Fall Out Boy

As a dude who spends much of his time wearing a mask that looks like it’s been stitched together out of mummified human flesh, and playing songs such as “I Am Hated”, “Pulse of the Maggots” and, of course, “People = Shit”, it’s safe to assume that Slipknot frontman Corey Taylor doesn’t really give two psychosocial shits about hurting your feelings.

Further evidence of this comes from his latest memoir, You’re Making Me Hate You: A Cantankerous Look At the Common Misconception That Humans Have Any Common Sense Left, the title of which pretty much speaks for itself.

In a recent chat with Kerrang! regarding the book, Taylor served up some additional steaming wisdom nuggets about the state of rock music today, and threw some maggot-ridden shade on Fall Out Boy, Gene Simmons and pop music en masse, in the process.

“I take a lot of ‘popular music’ to task and people who are hailed as geniuses but didn’t really earn it,” he says about the “cantankerous” contents of his new book (via Blabbermouth). “Some of the things that come out of these people’s mouths are just fucking unbelievable.”

He goes on to point the finger at Fall Out Boy, whose fifth album was titled Save Rock and Roll, in what unfolds as a sweary, impassioned rant.

“I’ve got a couple of friends who are in this band, but Fall Out Boy saying they’re going to ‘save rock ‘n’ roll’- Are you fucking kidding me? You? With the shit that I’ve heard for the last two albums, that’s you saving fucking rock and roll? No, I don’t think so.”

Taylor adds: “But whether it’s Fall Out Boy saying they’re saving rock ‘n’ roll or Gene Simmons saying rock is already dead, I’m standing here with sold out shows, a No. 1 album around the world and I’m going, ‘Really? When did this happen?’”

The Slipknot and intermittent Stone Sour frontman sums up by weighing in on the state of rock music today. “Rock ebbs and flows. It always has,” he explains. “As shiny and new as these people like to think pop music is, it’s the same six people who write every fucking song for some of these talentless fuckholes and I’m not worried about anything.

“These people have been trying to kill us for 30 years and it keeps not happening.”

Taylor was last in Australia with Slipknot earlier this year to headline Soundwave 2015. He also recently definitively ranked the Nine’s entire discography from worst to best, crushing forums of potential debate amongst fans forevermore.
