The Beat: Nicholas ‘RAS’ Furlong Opens Up on Inspiration and The Path to Success

Nicholas “RAS” Furlong is everywhere. He’s written hits for 5 Seconds to Summer, the Wanted and Steve Aoki, and conceived the killer Avicii pirate fight-song track “The Nights” – with a special thematic connection to his own father. Now, a month after the release of All Time Low’s Future Hearts – with which he was intimately involved – the Woodland Hills, CA producer/spinner brings us into his world through a new series called “The Beat” – an inspiration-driven video feature showcasing high-level artists exposing their own passion drivers.

Watch below as RAS breaks down his own early fascination with music, as well as the revolutionary pivot-point of mp3.com’s arrival in connecting artists with producers and like-minded talent. The nostalgia is far more than novelty as the rising producer shares the story of his first commissioned music gig with a spark in his eye. Then, with the entry of Skrillex into the mainstream consciousness, RAS saw his opening to take flight. Aspiring artists and fascinated fans, you might want to take notes:

RAS continues his collaboration streak with artists as diverse as All Time Low, Hook N Sling and Mr Hudson. He’s writing with Krewella for their new album, and chances are he’s messing with your computer right now, making beats for you to play with.

Pick up All Time Low’s Future Hearts on iTunes, and keep up with Ras on Facebook and his official site.
