Earlier this month, the complete first season of Daredevil premiered on Netflix to acclaim from both fans and critics. Today, Marvel and Netflix issued their response.
Netflix has officially announced that Daredevil Season 2 will premiere in 2016. Additionally, showrunner Steven S. DeKnight is apparently leaving the series. The new showrunners will be Doug Petrie (Buffy the Vampire Slayer) and Marco Ramirez (Sons of Anarchy), both of whom wrote scripts for the first season of Daredevil. Drew Goddard and Jeph Loeb will remain with Daredevil as executive producers alongside Petrie and Ramirez.

The original plan for Marvel’s original programming on Netflix was to introduce Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage and Iron Fist in their own 13 episode series before teaming them up in The Defenders eight episode miniseries. The renewal of Daredevil may indicate that additional seasons are possible for all of Marvel’s Netflix series.
Daredevil Season 2 will likely retain most of the first season’s cast, including Charlie Cox, Deborah Ann Woll, Elden Henson and Rosario Dawson. But it’s unclear if Vincent D’Onofrio will also return.
