Snoop Dogg is coming to HBO.
Deadline is reporting that HBO is developing an untitled family drama produced by rap icon Snoop Dogg (aka Cordozar Calvin Broadus Jr) and Allen Hughes. The series will be set in Los Angeles during the early ‘80s as a family’s “idyllic life is turned upside down by the collision of their community and American politics.” Snoop Dogg grew up in Long Beach during the ‘70s and ‘80s, which suggests that the project may draw on his personal history.
Rodney Barnes (The Boondocks) wrote the pilot script, with Hughes also attached to direct the pilot. Snoop Dogg previously worked with Barnes when he made multiple appearances on The Boondocks.

It’s not clear if Snoop Dogg plans to appear in the potential series as an actor. Snoop Dogg has made several appearances in film and television including Bones, Training Day, Starsky & Hutch, Brüno, The L Word, Weeds and Entourage.
HBO has also picked up a six episode limited series from 12 Years a Slave director Steve McQueen called Codes Of Conduct. Co-written by McQueen and Matthew Michael Carnahan, Codes of Conduct follows a young black man named Beverly Snow (Devon Terrell) who enters New York’s high society. Paul Dano, Helena Bonham Carter and Rebecca Hall will also costar in Codes of Conduct, which does not currently have a premiere date.
