It appears that tabloid newspapers are falling over each other to make fools of themselves as much as Twitter users are, as the ongoing furor surrounding Sunderland winger Adam Johnson and his alleged sexual relations with a 15-year-old girl has now led to The Sun obtaining an “exclusive” image of the pair together, which appears to have been cobbled together in PhotoShop by a man with no eyes or fingers.

Here’s the picture in full, which depicts two cardboard cutouts of human beings standing in front of a blurred non-descript grassy background:
Quite why one of the UK’s leading tabloids would not invest in someone with at least a modicum of PhotoShopping talent (or at least someone with a functioning pair of eyes) is beyond me, but as you can see, it is highly unlikely that this is a photograph of two human beings standing next to one another. Everything from the glossy perm seemingly being sported by the “15-year-old”, to the little bit of incongruous light shading sneaking between the arms of the pair, to Adam Johnson’s odd, rounded head all point to this being a fake conjured up by a group of people who are getting a little bit tired of the lack of facts being revealed by police in regards to Adam Johnson’s arrest, so have instead decided that it’s for the best if they completely make up their own.
Of course, this is hardly shocking behaviour from the newspaper, which isn’t exactly known for having a well-adjusted moral compass, but that this image is being picked up by other news outlets and its credibility has yet to be actively questioned is dubious to say the least. Clearly the lack of actual news surrounding the Adam Johnson investigation is getting to a few outlets, who were hoping the whole “Premier League Star Sleeps With a Minor” headline would keep their sports columns running for at least another 3 weeks with juicy gossip. Instead they’ve hired a quadriplegic to create gossip for them using PhotoShop.
