Everyone’s favourite non-Aussie band named after an Aussie marsupial, The Wombats, have confirmed that they will be returning to our shores in July 2015 for a tour, which puts them here smack bang on Splendour In The Grass O’Clock.
The trio are currently in town for a whistlestop promo tour for their forthcoming album, Glitterbug, having played just two eleventh-hour shows in Sydney and Melbourne this week, and they’ve now informed triple j that fans won’t have to wait long for their return.
“We’re coming back in July”, drummer Dan Haggis said in an interview with the youth broadcaster.
After which multi-instrumentalist Tord Øverland Knudsen quickly cut in, “That was a secret, we weren’t supposed to say that.”
The annual parklands festival has been pencilled in for the last weekend in July, and there’s currently a Splendour In The Grass sized hole in The Wombats’ touring schedule.
Add to that the fact that the Liverpudlian marsupials have graced the festival bill before, back in 2008, as well as Splendour’s sister festival, Falls, in 2013/14, and it all seems elementary, my dear Watson.
TheSplendour In The Grass lineup is traditionally announced in April, so we’ll have to wait till then to find out for sure.
