Jack White returned to the stage for a short US jaunt before his blowout gig at Madison Square Garden on Friday. Last night in his hometown of Nashville, Tennessee, rock n’ roll’s Willy Wonka pulled a few tricks from his sleeve, one of which included an onstage reunion of The Raconteurs.
The Dead Weather Unveil Brooding New Song ‘Buzzkill(er)’
In their first performance together in three years, White welcomed Brendan Benson and “Little” Jack Lawrence during the set’s encore to play “Salute Your Solution” and “Steady, As She Goes,” their first performance as The Raconteurs in three years. Rac’s drummer Patrick Keeler wasn’t present for the performance. But as evidenced when the band was introduced pre-encore in the video below, the capacity crowd went absolutely apeshit at the announcement of The Raconteurs returning.
White invited Loretta Lynn to the stage shortly after, for a duet of “Portland, Oregon” from her 2004 album Van Lear Rose, which White produced. They also dove into rare-gem “Whispering Sea”.
With the promise of new Dead Weather and Raconteurs music on the horizon in 2015, this is just the tip of one badass blues-shredding iceberg.
