Think your baseball card collection is impressive? Gale’s (pictured above) is worth a tad more.
According to CBS Connecticut, the woman from Boston — who has only released her first name for security reasons — has a collection of vintage baseball cards of the 1871-72 Boston Red Stockings. The relic collection appears to be the most impressive ever found of its kind — and it’s worth $1 million dollars.
Gale tells “Antiques Roadshow,” “It hasn’t sunk in… I really couldn’t believe that it could worth that much… It was just sitting in here in a desk drawer and I ran across it one day and decided I’d like to have it, not realizing at all what it was worth.”
Good grief. Talk about cliche. We’ve heard this story before. Someone moves into a new house or opens up a random old drawer to casually find a treasure trove of sports history in mint condition. Purveyors proceed to drool.
WHY CAN’T THIS EVER HAPPEN TO ME!?
What’s more impressive is that the findings are authenticated by handwritten letters from the Red Stockings to Gale’s great-great grandmother after they stayed at her boarding house.
They are historic, incredibly old and in mint condition. CHA-CHING!
