Home grown Australian acts muscled their way into the ARIA chart’s best-selling list of singles and albums of 2014, competing locally with some of the biggest names in international music.
The huge success of single ‘Geronimo’ from Brisbane’s Sheppard helped the band soar to No.4 on the ARIA’s list of best-selling singles of 2014, being trumped only by Pharrell’s ‘Happy’, Meghan Trainor’s ‘All About That Bass’ and Taylor Swift’s ‘Shake It Off’.
Fellow Aussie acts Justice Crew and Sia ranked fifth and sixth, with ‘Que Sera’ and ‘Chandelier’ respectively, while Iggy Azalea and 5 Seconds Of Summer also polled in the top 20.
Australians flocked to pick up Ed Sheeran’s album X as the top selling album of the year ahead of Taylor Swift’s 1989 and the Frozen soundtrack, while local releases from INXS, Hilltop Hoods, Human Nature, 5 Seconds Of Summer, Chet Faker, AC/DC and Jimmy Barnes also cracked the top 20.
