Magpie Ben Reid Shipped To Germany

Collingwood has sent versatile big man Ben Reid to Munich to be treated by world-leading athletic doctor Hans-Wilhelm Müller-Wohlfahrt.

Soft-tissue injuries hampered Reid’s 2014 season, forcing the club to send the 25-year-old to Germany following another calf injury at a December training session.

Reid will be seen by Müller-Wohlfahrt, club doctor of German powerhouse Bayern Munich and the doctor of high-profile athletes Usain Bolt, Kobe Bryant and Steven Gerrard. Current and former AFL players Max Rooke, Mark Coughlan and Dylan Grimes have also undergone treatment with Müller-Wohlfahrt in recent years.

The 2010 premiership player received the first round of treatment on his calf on Monday and will undergo further sessions later in the week before flying back to Melbourne on the weekend.

“We have sent Ben over with a club physician, Lachlan Fooks, in order to determine why Ben has experienced several muscle strains,” Magpies Director of Football Neil Balme told CollingFC.com.au.

“While they are not significant, we are concerned that there could be underlying problems.

“Ben went over on Sunday and received his first round of treatment on Monday.  He will return the following Sunday.

“We won’t have any timelines or results on Ben’s health until he returns to the club.”

Reid debuted in 2007 and received his first consistent opportunity during the 2010 season. During a four-season span between 2010-14, Reid averaged at least 14 disposals and five marks per contest while playing a minimum of 20 games a year.
