The Michael family have been axed from the hit Channel 4 show Gogglebox as it has been revealed that dad Andrew Michael is set to stand for UKIP.
According to the broadcaster, Andrew standing for the party has been deemed a conflict of interest, with them releasing a statement saying: “Mr Michael has confirmed his proposed candidacy as a UKIP MP.
“Sadly, any Gogglebox cast member who becomes a candidate for a political party will have to step down from their involvement in Gogglebox.
“It’s with great regret that The Michaels are no longer in the show. They have been excellent contributors to Gogglebox, and we are very grateful for all they have given to the show.”
Interestingly, the broadcaster didn’t deem it a conflict of interest when they commissioned a special that actually doubled up as a party political broadcast for UKIP, in which putty-faced party leader Nigel Farage spent a day with the show’s “posh couple” Steph and Dom.
The family’s mom Carolyn Michael tweeted out her goodbyes to the family’s fans, writing: “its with g8t sadness that we must say goodbye to the wonderful Gogglebox family. Andy entering politics so can no longer stay with it.”
Since when has “g&t” been shorthand for “great”? Doesn’t that just an elongated spelling of gate? Gaaate?
The last episode of the latest series of the show will air on December 19th at 9pm on Channel 4.
