If you’ve been to the internets anytime in the past few weeks, you’ve undoubtedly been buried under enough Best Of 2014 lists to make you want to grab a shotgun and put your computer out of its breathlessly hyperbolic misery.
But wait, there’s more! We’ve brought you the best albums of the year, we’ve shown you the way to musical Christmas gifts people will actually appreciate, and shoved more Christmas-song alternatives in your ears to keep ‘em ringing well into the 2015 holidays. Now we’re hitting musical cruise control with a killer playlist of the Best Songs of 2014, packed with the kind of high-energy goodness we’re going to need if we ever plan to get these goddamned presents wrapped in time.
Forget the rankings – here’s a Spotify mixtape that beats the shit out of the rest of 2014’s playlists, for the simple fact that it includes 20 of the best songs of the year. Naturally, there’s one glaring omission, which arguably outshined every other song this year. You won’t find it on Spotify, however, after a polarizing public battle between the artist in question and the streaming giant. You can check that hot action underneath the playlist.
In the meantime, give that ‘volume up’ button a workout and rock Crave’s Best Songs of 2014 mixtape:
Of course, the glaring omission from our list is the song that’s had us taking some long, hard looks in the mirror lately, wondering what the fuck has happened to the balance of the universe. Somehow, 2014 has been defined by Taylor Swift’s impossibly addictive “Shake It Off” track, which has resulted in a brand-new medication specifically for the horrifying realization that we actually like Taylor Swift.
