That Time Kanye Freestyled His Entire New Album For Seth Rogen

The man whose motto is “my life is dope and I do dope shit” apparently walks the walk. While the secret may have slipped on a short-order release to the Yeezus follow-up, in a new Rolling Stone interview Seth Rogen recounts the time Kanye West freestyled the entirety of his new album for the actor and his wife in the back of a limo for two hours.

The actor, whose new movie The Interview is apparently the leading cause behind the recent massive Sony hack, bumped into the rapper in the lobby of a New York hotel. At Kanye’s insistence, the couple entered a nearby van, where they were treated to an exclusive first performance of the hotly anticipated sequel to Yeezus – in its entirety – ahead of its release.

“Me and my wife had gotten some dessert and were in the lobby getting plates to bring back to our room … And Kanye was like, ‘What are you guys doing? Want to hear my new album?'” Rogen said. “So he takes us to this limo van and starts playing his album – except there’s no lyrics only beats. So he raps the whole album and after each song, he stops it, like ‘So what do you think?’ We were in the van for two hours!”

The incident inspired Rogen to be more transparent in his creative process, and open to outsider input. “Now I realize the next person he sees that he knows is getting pulled into that van. But I learned a lesson from it – which is that Kanye is seeking input at all times,” he said. “Process-wise, it showed an openness and a fearlessness. We started screening our movies more and in rougher versions for our friends because of that.”

Fans will also recall that Rogen and fellow actor James Franco made a painfully brilliant spoof video of West’s track “Bound 2” last year. Kanye may have had the last laugh in this instance, when he requested the duo re-enact the video in its entirety in front of his entire wedding party last year.
