Bono isn’t having a great time of things at the moment. Only a few days ago the U2 frontman was flying to Berlin from Dublin when one of the doors of his private jet opened mid-flight, leaving him “lucky to be alive” as only the singer’s luggage was sent hurtling out of the plane. Now his band has been forced to delay their scheduled appearances on The Tonight Show, as he’s currently recovering from a “cycling spill” in New York’s Central Park.

The full statement from U2 and Bono reads: “It looks like we will have to do our Tonight Show residency another time – we’re one man down. Bono has injured his arm in a cycling spill in Central Park and requires some surgery to repair it. We’re sure he’ll make a full recovery soon, so we’ll be back! Much thanks to Jimmy Fallon and everyone at the show for their understanding.”
The statement didn’t reveal when Bono sustained the injury, though this past weekend he made an appearance in London to record Band Aid 30’s fourth reincarnation of ‘Do They Know It’s Christmas?’
The charitable track, the proceeds of which are going to help “kill Ebola”, organiser Bob Geldof said during its reveal on talent show X Factor on Sunday (November 16th), sees Bono’s famous line “Well tonight thank God it’s them instead of you”, being changed to the uncomfortable “well tonight we’re reaching out and touching you”. Please stay away from us, Bono.
Given the recent frequency in which Bono is finding himself in unfortunate accidents, there’s only one logical conclusion we can jump to: the universe is conspiring against him, perhaps because the universe was angered by Songs of Innocence being placed on its iTunes without its consent. Whatever the reasoning Bono and the universe need to make amends immediately, before we have to report on the Irishman being involved in some form of boating incident next week.
