Jessica Ennis has been the recipient of vile comments made by trolls on Twitter, after the Olympic star requested that her name be removed from Sheffield United’s Bramall Lane stadium as convicted rapist Ched Evans is set to make his return to the club.
Evans, who served a two-and-half year jail term, is set to train with Sheffield once again, though manager Nigel Clough has said that it has not been decided whether or not he will be re-signed.

However, Ennis has said that if Sheffield do go ahead with signing Evans, she would want her name removed from one of the stadium’s stands. The athlete said: “Those in positions of influence should respect the role they play in young people’s lives and set a good example.
“If Evans was to be re-signed by the club it would completely contradict these beliefs.”
Her comments sparked some disgraceful harassment from Twitter users, with @CoreyOC21 writing: “hope ched Evans gets you you little slut.”
Another Twitter user wrote: “Jessica Ennis Hill is a stupid c***. Saying she will remove her name if Chef evens is signed. I hope he rapes her”.
Other users of the social networking site condemned the comments, reporting them to authorities. The South Yorkshire Police later released a statement that said they are “currently looking into the tweets”.
