GTA 5 is the 6th Best-Selling Game Ever with 34 Million Units Sold

Take-Two Interactive CEO Strauss Zelnick announced during today’s Fiscal Year 2015 Earnings Call that Grand Theft Auto 5 has surpassed the 34 million units sold mark.

It was revealed exactly a year ago that GTA 5 had sold 29 million units within its first six weeks on the market. So, the title has sold an additional five million units in the past 12 months.

This immensely large figure makes it the sixth best-selling game of all time,  just one million behind Mario Kart Wii, and six million behind Super Mario Bros. The only games released in the past two years that come close to this figure are Call of Duty: Ghosts at 19 million, Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 at 24 million, and Diablo 3 at 15 million.

PS4 and Xbox One versions will release on November 18th, and are expected to sell a substantial amount of copies. Shortly thereafter, a PC version will be released on January 27th, which many gamers have expressed interest in for its modability. Each of these three versions boast increased texture quality, improved draw distance, upgraded weather, new wildlife and vegetation, as well as an improved resolution.

Exclusive content has been announced for players who purchased the Xbox 360 or PS3 version and buy a new release on PS4, Xbox One, or PC. GTA 5 is likely to approach the 40 million mark as a result.
