Nintendo has joined in on the NPD Group fun, debuting its success in North America during the month of September.
The Wii U performed admirably during the month of September with a 50% increase in sales, totaling at around 97,000 units sold during the month. In contrast, the PS4 sold over 500,000 during the same period.
The Wii U’s big title for the month was Hyrule Warriors, which pushed the Wii U, but not as much as many expected. However, the release of Mario Kart 8 back in May has continued to help the Wii U achieve better figures year-over-year.

On the handheld side of things, Super Smash Bros. sold 705,000 units in the two days following its release on October 3rd, resulting in a 55% increase in 3DS units sold during the period. The 3DS would tally 140,000 units sold during the month, an increase of 55% over August.
Many are expecting a small jump in Wii U sales with the debut of Bayonetta 2 this month, which has become one of the most well-received titles of the year. Soon, Super Smash Bros. will be out with a large marketing campaign. These two titles are critically important to the Wii U making an impact this holiday season.
