Australian electronic musician/producer Chet Faker and Brisbane indie pop band Sheppard could be in for big hauls at November’s 2014 ARIA Awards after receiving a combined 16 nominations as part of Tuesday’s announcement ceremony.
Faker backed up his sweep of the ceremony’s early artisan awards, including Producer Of The Year, Engineer Of The Year and Best Cover Art, by receiving a whopping nine nominations for debut album Built On Glass in categories Album Of The Year, Best Male Artist, Breakthrough Artist, Best Independent Release, Best Video (Talk Is Cheap) and Best Dance Release for ‘Drop The Game’ with label-mate Flume.
Sheppard were rewarded for the success of 4x Platinum No.1 single ‘Geronimo’ with nominations in Song Of The Year, Best Video, Best Group, Album Of The Year, Best Independent Release and Best Pop Release.
Sia was another prolific nominee in major categories with six nominations, including Best Female Artist, while singer songwriter Dan Sultan collected five, including Best Male Artist and Best Rock Album.
Export rapper Iggy Azalea’s No.1 US hit ‘Fancy’ propelled the Sydney native to three nominations while grunge band Violent Soho and their top 10 album Hungry Ghost received nominations for Best Group, Best Independent Release and publicly-voted categories Best Video (Covered In Chrome) and Best Australian Live Act.
Fans wanting a say in who takes home the hardware can vote in public categories Song Of The Year, Best International Act, Best Australian Live Act and Best Video via the ARIA website.
The 2014 ARIA Awards will be held on Wednesday, 26th November at the Event Centre at The Star in Sydney.
