Legendary footballer Paul Gascoigne has been arrested after a clash with a photographer, which allegedly resulted in him throwing a brick at a van.
The 47-year-old former England player has been included in a number of headlines lately, with his well-known problems with alcohol abuse resurfacing after he was pictured wandering outside his penthouse home in Sandbanks, Dorset, looking gaunt and frail. Gascoigne had recently left hospital following treatment for his alcoholism, though it is being reported that his arrest came after he was seen drinking with locals at the Star Inn pub.
Dorset Police released a statement regarding Gascoigne’s arrest, saying: “At 1.42pm officers attended a disturbance (and) a 47-year-old man was arrested for criminal damage. He was released on bail until October pending further enquiries.” Gascoigne was reportedly covering his face with a hooded dressing gown upon his arrest.
Gascoigne was taken into Poole Police Station on September 10th after several officers arrived on the scene to make the arrest.
This is the latest in a line of run-ins Gascoigne has had with the media, such as the time he made headlines after attempting to visit Raoul Moat during the middle of Moat’s shooting spree. Gascoigne told a local radio station he had brought with him “a can of lager, some chicken, a mobile phone and something to keep warm”, adding: “I have come all the way from Newcastle to Rothbury to find him, have a chat with him. I guarantee Moaty won’t shoot me. I am good friends with him.”
