Jeremy Clarkson has responded to the rumours that the next series of Top Gear will be canned by the BBC, following the accusations of racism thrown in the direction of the host.
Clarkson faced a huge public backlash when video footage emerged of him repeating a racist nursery rhyme that featured the “n-word” in a cut clip from an episode of the popular car show. Clarkson released a video apologising for the offensive footage, with a BBC investigation being launched into the show. However, the investigation didn’t lead to Clarkson’s sacking, despite there being multiple instances of him having used racist terminology on the show, including him referring to an Asian man as a “slope” in last year’s Burma special.
Responding to the speculation that a new series of Top Gear wouldn’t be commissioned following the controversy, Clarkson told Top Gear magazine: “There has been a lot of stuff in the newspapers recently about the future of Top Gear. Some seem to think there isn’t one.
“But I can assure you, there is. There are also those who think I won’t be part of it. Well, sorry, but I am. Unless I am eaten by a pack of wild dogs before the next series starts early next year.”

There was also a rumour circulating that Chris Evans would replace Clarkson as host if a new series were to air, but Evans promptly denied that he had been asked by the BBC to take over the role.

Comedian Frankie Boyle recently offered his thoughts on the controversy, calling for the BBC to sack the “cultural tumour” Clarkson. Many have regarded the BBC’s decision to continue to employ Clarkson as favouritism, as Top Gear remains one of the most-watched shows for the company.
