Is Weezer’s weirdo frontman Rivers Cuomo getting his own Fox sitcom? According to The Hollywood Reporter, the network has reportedly greenlit a pilot called “DeTour,” a single-cam comedy from Psych creator Steve Franks that will focus on “a 30-something rock star who, unable to rationalize his success and worried that he may not have the tools to repeat it, walks away from the spotlight at the height of his fame in an effort to rediscover the parts of his life he missed while he was busy becoming a massive success.”
In other words, Cuomo’s life will serve as a loose inspiration for a fictional character’s story “and the small band of misfit friends that make it possible.” Franks is set to helm script and production, alongside Tagline Television’s Chris Henze (Psych) and Willie Mercer.
In real life, Cuomo took a break from stardom eight years ago to return to college at Harvard. Upon earning his English degree, he returned to full rockin’ mode, and continued Weezer’s path of domination to the tun of 20 million records sold. Weezer’s next studio album, Everything Will Be Alright in the End, is due Oct. 7.
