For the past week gamers have been convinced that P.T. just stands for playable teaser. However, this is a game made by Hideo Kojima. Things are rarely what they first appear.
We’ve learned that P.T. is a teaser for an upcoming game called Silent Hills, which will be headed by Hideo Kojima and Guillermo Del Toro. We also know that Silent Hills will be ridiculously scary, not only because Kojima says that’s the team’s goal, but because P.T. is just a taste of what’s to come and has already established itself as one of the scariest forms of video game media in history.
Although the hard facts end there, some discussion on Reddit has turned up information that could explain a bit more about what Silent Hills is all about.
The number 204863 appears several times throughout the teaser. It means something, and an investigation on the internet turns up the gene model for Populus Trichocarpa (P.T.), also known as Black Cottonwood. It’s a tree species only found in North America.

So what relevance does this have? Well, it could be as simple as a way for Hideo Kojima to hint at the setting of the game. Black Cottonwood is only found in southeast Alaska, British Columbia, Washington, and Oregon.
Now, have a look at the city portion of the Silent Hills teaser trailer:
Not only does the city bear resemblance to Seattle and other Northwestern United States cities, but the teaser trailer shows rainfall and a cold climate. It seems this is where we’ll be heading for the next Silent Hill.

There’s a great video on YouTube by user DreamcastGuy which also goes over the subtle hints of story placed in P.T. What you should know is that the plural use of hills in Silent Hills is intentional. There’s enough evidence to conclude that the game will incorporate multiple realities. We’ve seen a similar mechanic with the nightmarish parallel universes in previous Silent Hill games, but this time around there should be more than two.
