Manchester United legend Ryan Giggs’ number 11 shirt has been passed over to 19-year-old Belgian winger Adnan Januzaj.
The signing of Januzaj was one of the only positives that could be taken from former United manager David Moyes’ woeful campaign with the club, and if this shirt swap is to be considering a passing of the torch, then it seems as though Louis van Gaal has big plans for the youngster, too.

Januzaj’s new shirt number was revealed in a leaked photo taken in an official Manchester United store, and it has led to many Man U fans complaining that it should have been retired after Giggs hung up his boots. However, many others see this as a good sign and that United are looking towards a solid future, with the teenager being pegged as a large part of their promised transition back to the top of the Premier League.
After Giggs, Januzaj is only the second player in the club’s history to wear the number 11 shirt, and with that will inevitably come a lot of pressure. It remains to be seen whether or not he can live up to it, but as the next season lies just around the corner, Van Gaal and the rest of the club will certainly be hoping that he can.
