Here’s a Look at the PS4’s New User Interface in an Upcoming Major Patch

It appears that the PS4 user interface will be receiving a facelift in its next major update. Several images have leaked onto the internet, and thanks to BehindGames we get a sneak peek into what Sony’s software team has been cooking in the kitchen.

This new interface is a moderate evolution, focusing on a more pleasant presentation for the eyes. Menus have been changed in subtle ways. The drop-down menu for software still has the same options, but is more transparent and has had space inserted between the text. It also appears that recent screenshots can be previewed at the bottom of the main menu when software is selected.

Not only has the main menu had some renovation, but pop-up windows as well. Trophy notifications look different, and there’s even snap-like functionality that lets you read more about a trophy while playing a game via a cropped left-side window.

Game invites also look different, and have been integrated into the same snap-like window which allows users to accept or decline game invites seamlessly.

Lastly, the update will also include a new Favorite Games feature which allows you to pin the software of your choice to a folder.

It’s unclear if wallpapers and other highly requested features will make it into the update. They don’t appear to be present in these leaked screenshots, though.

The PS4’s current version is 1.75, so chances are this content is part of the 2.0 update, which will be the system’s first of many major patches. Its arrival date is unknown, but somewhere near the one-year anniversary of November 15th is my guess.
