Former Middle East Drummer Crowdfunding New Game

Games developer LionSaysRoar have launched a Kickstarter campaign to raise funds to develop Totome – a “high-adrenaline” game for iPhone and Android platforms, which they plan to release in time for Christmas 2014. LionSaysRoar director Javed Sterritt, ex-drummer for indie darlings The Middle East, has teamed up with Crash Bandicoot composer Josh Mancell for the project.

“Totome presents an opportunity for you to get behind animators, artists and composers who are eager to journey into the world of the interactive by crafting their first game,” writes the Sydney-based games developer on their campaign page.

The developers say the idea came from both a general love of video games and a desire to collaborate with different artists in the areas of illustration, music and animation. They say Totome is “designed to test the endurance of the player while also being immersed in the beauty and atmosphere of the environment.”

“I had this moment where I felt like I wanted to surpass the basic level of a ‘gamer’ and actually try to make one of my own,” Sterritt explained in a statement. “I love the psychology and the experimentation of games and how they affect us. The video game is an art form. When done right, it can inspire you, immerse you in a story, and challenge you.”

Totome promises to be beautiful to look at and addictive to play, with a beautifully suspenseful soundtrack to accompany the experience. The idea of the game is to simply see how far you can run away from the oncoming arrows, while immersed in the stunnIng environment.

Sterritt has also collaborated with US designer and illustrator Clint Reid for the project. When released, the team says the game will be free for users.

So far LionSaysRoar has managed to acquire $1,540 of their total funding goal of $4,900, with 27 days still remaining. Head to their Kickstater page here to find more information about the game and the campaign.
