Watch: New ‘Interstellar’ Trailer

Well, that was fast. When Matthew McCounaughey and Christopher Nolan presented a trailer for Interstellar at Comic-Con it was said that that trailer wouldn’t be seen outside Hall H for “a while.” But in the digital age, four and a half days probably is a while. Especially since Paramount might’ve needed to appease armchair Con-watchers who didn’t get to see anything other than vines of the secretive Nolan and the charismatic McCounaughey on stage.

McConaughey has taken a page from his friend and former flame, Sandra Bullock, which is once your career changes because you won on Oscar, immediately go to space with a visionary director. As she did with Alfonso Cuaron’s Gravity so McConaughey does with Nolan’s Interstellar. Joining him in space appears to be Anne Hathaway, David Oyelowo and Wes Bentley. He leaves behind his children in the dirt, taking a job that humanity needs to survive (the job is pitched by Nolan regular, Michael Caine, who deftly inserts a Dylan Thomas quote into his pitch): finding a new planet to inhabit. This looks epic. And even though there’s a lot of expanse — entire other worlds and wormholes — Nolan appears to be making a film that works from the inside out: internal truths and humanity, against the huge canvas of space.

Casey Affleck, Bill Irwin, Topher Grace and even Matt Damon also have roles in the film, although we weren’t able to glean who they played from this trailer (below) (nor Jessica Chastain, who though present, only appears long enough for her long red-hair to get blown Terrence Malick-like, in the wind). To us, it’s gorgeous. So little was known of the plot beforehand and Nolan keeps enough hidden that we’re not sure exactly what it is other than a visually immersive experience. But it also appears to touch the heart.

Interstellar will be released on November 7, 2014. How excited are you? Does the first lengthy footage meet your expectations or exceed them? Your comments will be sent up to space and back to us.

Nolan did shoot a lot of the footage with IMAX cameras, so the biggest screens are calling.
